Don’t miss this opportunity to hear Diana’s captivating creation stories from her Wintun/Maidu traditions!
Join us on Saturday, November 7 for an afternoon of cultural storytelling and a hands-on tule workshop.
Led by Diana Almendariz and her daughter Christina Almendariz, this will be an opportunity for the public to learn about Wintun/Maidu cultural practices and think critically about the importance of wetland plants such as tule and cattail.
This event will begin with a ceremonial opening, and then Diana and Christina will introduce the community to the natural and cultural importance of tule and share their understanding of how tule has been – and can be again – interwoven into our land, waterways and our lives, through stories and touch.
This all-ages event will take place in conjunction with the Good Fire, Living Water: The Gifts of a Marsh Economy exhibit, which is on view at the Davis Arts Center through November 13.
